Samsung Electronics DX Union Holds Rally in Front of Jay Y. Lee’s Home: "Let’s Talk Directly"
Launching Ceremony Held Near Hannam-dong Residence
Indefinite Relay Sit-in Begins
On September 18, the Donghaeng labor union at Samsung Electronics demanded a conversation with Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee regarding wage negotiations and performance bonuses. The Donghaeng union is primarily composed of members from the Device Experience (DX) division, which is responsible for home appliances, TVs, and smartphones at Samsung Electronics.
On the 18th, in front of Samsung Electronics Chairman Jae-yong Lee's residence in Yongsan-gu, union members of "Together," a labor union mainly consisting of employees from Samsung Electronics' Device Experience (DX) division, held a rally urging for the resolution of compensation disparities. The Donghaeng union stated, "We have raised our voices in Suwon and Seocho, and even displayed our message at New York's Times Square, but the company has not yet set up a proper dialogue table with us. We are demanding an avenue to speak directly with Chairman Lee."
They requested the establishment of a joint bargaining framework so they could conduct wage negotiations together with the Device Solutions (DS) division, which handles the semiconductor business.
Earlier, the Samsung Group Super Enterprise Union—Samsung's largest union, mainly consisting of DS division workers—declared that starting with the 2027 wage negotiations, they would negotiate separately from the DX division.
In contrast, the Donghaeng union insists that joint bargaining is essential to reflect the voices of DX division members, including their demand that a certain percentage of the company-wide performance results be allocated as a common fund.
The Donghaeng union also demanded a company response to the so-called "union blacklist" incident, in which employee personal information was reportedly shared within the company. They stated, "The company must clearly reveal whether there were victims, how the leak occurred, how the information was used, and what follow-up measures were taken." They also said that more than 15,000 petitions had already been prepared calling for stern punishment against Choi Seungho, head of the Super Enterprise Union, and others involved.
