New Criminal Justice System... Police Launch Regional Criminal Procedure Act Training Nationwide
The police are launching regional training programs nationwide to ensure the successful implementation of the new criminal justice system.
The National Police Agency held a training session on September 18 at its headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, for peer instructors from regional police agencies, field counseling and support task forces (TF), and investigators from direct investigative departments under both headquarters and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The aim was to raise field officers’ understanding of the amended Criminal Procedure Act and to ensure a stable transition to the new criminal justice system.
Currently, the police are finalizing revisions to related regulations in response to the amended Criminal Procedure Act, including the Investigation Standards, Police Investigation Regulations, and Crime Investigation Regulations. Last week, a revised 'Investigative Practice Guidelines,' which comprehensively covers all the institutional and procedural changes as well as key issues, was distributed to frontline officers. The training held on this day was organized to help field investigators accurately familiarize themselves with the new criminal justice procedures without confusion and to provide unified training standards for police agencies across the country.
Under the supervision of the headquarters, the Nation Police Agency plans to conduct a regional on-site training tour covering the 18 metropolitan and provincial police agencies nationwide. In addition, each regional police agency will hold training led by peer instructors for heads and team leaders of investigative departments at affiliated police stations. It will also be mandatory to complete online training for all investigative team leaders and cyber training for all police officers.
