Soongsil University and Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital of The Catholic University of Korea have signed a business agreement for cooperation in “medical big data and AI research and education.”

View original imageThe two institutions held an agreement ceremony on the 11th at Soongsil University, and decided to jointly promote research on medical AI that can address real challenges in the medical field by combining Soongsil University’s expertise in AI, statistics, and big data analysis with Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital’s clinical expertise.
The term of this agreement is two years from the signing date, and it will be automatically extended by one year at a time unless otherwise notified.
According to the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate in the following areas: joint research and regular research exchanges on AI based on medical big data; mutual educational cooperation between AI/statistics and clinical medicine; joint planning and implementation of national research projects, including government R&D; co-hosting academic events and competitions; and cooperation in sharing research infrastructure, as well as exchange and consultation among experts.
In particular, the joint research will focus on developing AI models that utilize clinical data accumulated in the medical field to aid in disease diagnosis and prognosis prediction. The research will also seek to solve real clinical issues using AI technology and statistical methodologies.
In the area of education, cross-training programs will be organized, linking Soongsil University’s AI and statistics curriculum with Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital’s clinical education.
In addition, the two institutions plan to explore ways to advance research topics generated from joint research into large-scale projects and to facilitate greater interaction among researchers, clinicians, and students through academic events and medical AI competitions.
