Hwawoo Recruits Senior Foreign Attorney Paek Jonggwan, Expert in Nuclear Power and Energy

Hwawoo, a law firm, announced on the 17th that it has recruited Paek Jonggwan, a Senior Foreign Attorney and an expert in nuclear power generation, small modular reactors (SMRs), engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and plant export contracts.
Senior Foreign Attorney Paek is a specialist in the fields of energy, EPC plants, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), international litigation, and arbitration, with over 35 years of experience in nuclear power, energy, and international transactions. He majored in business administration at Boston College and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He is also admitted to the bar in New York State, USA.
Senior Foreign Attorney Paek represented Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in the UAE Barakah Nuclear Power Plant construction project, Korea's first-ever nuclear power export. He handled the entire process of bidding and contracting, including the main contract negotiations with the client, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation of the UAE. He also participated in subsequent contract negotiations, such as the operations support contract for Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and the long-term maintenance contract for KEPCO KPS.
Paek has also served as advisor to KEPCO and KHNP on numerous overseas nuclear power projects, including the Olkiluoto Unit 4 project in Finland, the El Dabaa project in Egypt, and nuclear power plant projects in Saudi Arabia. Most recently, he led EPC main contract negotiations representing KHNP in the Dukovany nuclear power project in the Czech Republic and provided legal advice on various legal issues arising during the implementation of the project.

Hwawoo stated that with this recruitment, it plans to strengthen its capabilities in advising on overseas projects in the nuclear, SMR, and energy plant sectors.
