Dong-Eui University is officially launching a convergence education program that combines artificial intelligence and design technology with the humanities and social sciences.

Dong-Eui University (President Jeon Kyungran) announced on September 17 that it held the opening ceremony for the Humanities and Social Convergence Talent Development Project Team (HUSS) on September 8 at the 2nd Humanities Building.

The event was attended by Kim Sunghee, Vice President for External Affairs, Jung Youngmi, Head of the HUSS Project Team, Choi Jongsul, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and professors from participating departments. Dong-Eui University is participating in a consortium—led by Yonsei University—to nurture convergence talents with narrative, imagination, and cultural strategy for a human-centered future society. Kongju National University, Ewha Womans University, and Handong Global University are also partners in this initiative.

The five universities signed a consortium agreement on future design at Yonsei University on September 4. Under the agreement, joint courses will be operated across universities. Students, regardless of their home institution, can take courses analyzing and addressing changes in society brought about by AI and digital technology.

Subjects completed at other universities will also be recognized as official credits by students' home universities. Educational facilities and learning resources will be shared among participating institutions as well.

Through this project, Dong-Eui University will receive 1.2 billion won in funding for three years. The university will establish an education platform linked with the local community and promote problem-solving-oriented convergence education.

Living lab education programs linked to industrial sites in the southeastern region will also be implemented. Dong-Eui University plans to identify issues in the Busan area, promote social innovation projects, and propose policies as part of its initiatives.

The focus will be on education that allows students to directly investigate regional issues and design practical solutions.

Jung Youngmi, Head of the HUSS Project Team at Dong-Eui University and Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science, said, "As AI and digital transformation accelerate, it becomes even more important to understand humans and society, and to proactively identify future challenges."

Professor Jung emphasized, "By working closely with the local community and industries, we will support students so they can grow into convergence talents demanded by future society."
