Despite the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to raise its benchmark interest rate, the KOSPI index is showing a slightly bullish movement in early trading.
As of 9:42 a.m. on September 17, the KOSPI was trading at 6,738.36, up 20.39 points (0.30%) from the previous session. By investor type, individuals were net buyers of 337.753 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions were net sellers of 520.162 billion won and 35.817 billion won, respectively.
By sector, machinery & equipment (1.90%), transport & storage (1.80%), and transportation equipment & parts (1.73%), as well as metals (1.29%) were showing gains. On the other hand, medical & precision instruments (-0.39%), paper & wood (-0.33%), and electrical & electronics (-0.30%) sectors remained slightly weak.
Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics, ranked first in market capitalization, remained flat (0.0%), while SK hynix, ranked second, was also flat (-0.6%). HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (4.8%), Hanwha Aerospace (3.8%), Doosan Enerbility (2.0%), and Samsung Biologics (2.0%) were strong, while LG Energy Solution (-1.2%) and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (-1.1%) were weak.
The KOSDAQ was trading at 818.57, up 2.59 points (0.32%) from the previous session. Individuals were net buyers of 70.056 billion won, and institutions were net buyers of 8.01 billion won, while foreign investors were net sellers of 76.496 billion won.
By sector, performance was mixed. Metals (1.31%), transportation equipment & parts (1.19%), and pharmaceuticals (0.74%) were either strong or steady, while publishing & media replication (-0.96%), machinery & equipment (-0.80%), transport & storage (-0.73%), and wholesale & retail (-0.64%) posted slight declines.

The top market cap stocks Alteogen (0.0%), Ecopro (0.3%), and Ecopro BM (0.6%) remained within a tight range, while PSK Holdings (-5.2%), PSK (-3.3%), and ISC (-2.8%) were weak. In contrast, bio stocks such as Peptron (2.3%), Pharmaresearch (1.6%), and Samchundang Pharm (1.4%) showed strong performance.
