OpenAI Eyes $1.5 Trillion IPO Valuation, Surpassing Investor Offers
NYT: "OpenAI Asserts a $1.5 Trillion Valuation"
According to a report by The New York Times (NYT) on September 16 (local time), OpenAI, which is considering raising new funds ahead of an initial public offering (IPO), is hoping for a corporate valuation of at least $1.5 trillion (approximately KRW 2,053 trillion).
According to the report, recent investors offered to invest in OpenAI at a $1.2 trillion valuation. However, OpenAI has argued for a $1.5 trillion valuation, citing increased demand for its proprietary coding tool Codex, as well as customer growth for its latest artificial intelligence (AI) models, including GPT-6 Astra and GPT-5.6 Sol.
Since its founding in 2015, OpenAI has raised more than $180 billion in funds. In March this year, the company was valued at $852 billion and raised $122 billion in what was the single largest investment round in Silicon Valley history.
NYT noted that, if this round of fundraising is successful, OpenAI's valuation would double from its most recent estimate and stated that it "would become the world’s most valuable privately held company."
In June, OpenAI submitted a preliminary IPO filing to the securities authorities, initiating the listing process. Previously, NYT reported that OpenAI was considering postponing its IPO in order to obtain a corporate valuation of over $1 trillion when it goes public.
