Gifts for National Merit Honorees, Bereaved Families of Industrial Accident Victims, and Patriotic Heroes
President Lee Jae-myung is sending gifts of regional specialties, including Andong soju, to people from various walks of life to celebrate the Chuseok holiday.
According to the Office of the President on September 16, this year's presidential Chuseok gift set is composed of local specialties reflecting the characteristics of five core regions and three special regions. The set includes traditional liquor, symbolizing respect for ancestors and the wish for the well-being of family and neighbors; wild greens and mushrooms that can be used in holiday dishes; and assorted sweets for the whole family to enjoy together.
By region, the gifts include sliced red ginseng (Seoul metropolitan area, Gimpo in Gyeonggi Province), chestnut chips (central region, Chungju in North Chungcheong Province), Andong soju (Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, Andong in North Gyeongsang Province), shredded shiitake mushrooms (Honam region, Jangheung in South Jeolla Province), jujube chips (southeastern region, Miryang in South Gyeongsang Province), Igangju liquor (Jeonju in North Jeolla Province), gondre greens (Jeongseon in Gangwon Province), and bracken (Jeju).
The Office of the President explained, “By bringing together specialties from five core and three special regions, including traditional liquors representing Yeongnam and Honam, the president’s intention is to foster national harmony and integration across regions and generations, and to move toward a Korea where everyone prospers together.”
Along with the gifts, President Lee included a card with the messages, “I hope you have a precious Chuseok holiday in which you can send regards to those you miss and share happiness with your loved ones,” and, “Like the moon that brings light to everyone each night without any qualifications or conditions, I will do my utmost so that a bright light may shine upon the lives of all citizens.”
The recipients of the gifts include major figures from various sectors who have worked together for national development, national patriots and merit awardees who have devoted themselves to the country, and people in socially vulnerable groups who have quietly persevered in their daily lives despite difficult circumstances.
As was the case last year, gifts will also be delivered to the bereaved families of victims of industrial accidents. The Office of the President added, “This reflects the government’s firm commitment to creating a society where everyone can work safely and enjoy a peaceful daily life.”
