"How About This Instead of the Baseball Stadium This Weekend?"... What Is the Toyota 'Family Cart' That's Opening Dads' Wallets?
Can Be Stored Upright Without Disassembly
Not Road Legal, Use Restricted to Dedicated Circuits Only
A beginner-friendly racing cart for the whole family to enjoy on weekends with children has been launched in Japan.
On September 16, Toyota's motorsports division, Gazoo Racing (GR), officially announced the local launch of the 'GR Cart' in Japan, which was developed so that everyone from children to adults can easily experience motorsports.
The GR Cart is a single-seater model equipped with a 215cc engine, weighing 83kg. It features a sliding pedal and tilting steering wheel, both adjustable with a single touch, allowing both children as short as 135cm and adults up to 185cm tall to share and use the same cart.
From Loading Into a Minivan to Easy Maintenance... Tailored for Beginners
Until now, racing carts have attracted a niche group of enthusiasts because of the thrill of driving at high speeds, but high purchase costs, the difficulties of transportation and storage, and complex maintenance have acted as entry barriers for beginners.
The most notable feature is convenience. The cart can be loaded directly into family minivans such as the Toyota Noah or Voxy without disassembly, which allows drivers to transport it to the track using a regular vehicle and without a dedicated trailer. In addition, the cart can be stored upright indoors, making much more efficient use of space at home.
It is convenient because you can store the cart standing up at home or in a warehouse. Toyota website

Safety features for beginners have also been incorporated throughout, such as a bumper to prevent other carts from running up onto the rear wheels in case of a collision.
Lowering the Entry Barrier to Motorsports... "A Familiar Everyday Sport"
This new product launch aligns with Chairman Akio Toyoda's philosophy. He explained that the cart was designed "to lower the entry barrier to motorsports and to establish it as a familiar everyday sport, like baseball or soccer, that anybody can easily enjoy."
However, for safety reasons, the GR Cart cannot be driven on public roads and may only be used on closed, dedicated courses such as kart tracks. There are currently no confirmed plans for domestic import or sale.
