Ewha Womans University Launches Fundraising Campaign for 140th Anniversary, Sets 4.2 Billion Won Goal
Funds Allocated to 15 Key Areas for Ewha's Future
10,000 Won per Day for 48 Months... Basic Donation Unit Set at 14 Million Won
Ewha Womans University is launching a fundraising campaign, “Waves of Ewha Sharing,” to commemorate its 140th anniversary. The funds raised will be used to foster talent in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as to support education and research.
“Waves of Ewha Sharing” is imbued with the symbolism of gathering 300 waves, each representing a part of Ewha's 140-year history and its expansion into the wider world, thus completing the “Sea of Ewha” that changes the world.
The basic donation unit, “one wave,” represents supporting a student's four-year journey (48 months) to realize their dream at Ewha. Donors can make a commitment to give 10,000 won per day (300,000 won per month) for a period of 48 months, amounting to a total donation of 14 million won. Ewha Womans University aims to gather a total of 300 waves, targeting a fund of 4.2 billion won.
This campaign allows participants to join in contributing to Ewha’s development through the “Wave Map.” The Wave Map visually fills in each area with a “wave” as the number of targeted waves (seats) in each fundraising category is met. When fundraising goals for all 15 core areas are sequentially achieved and all areas on the map are filled with waves, the “Sea of Ewha” extending out into the world is completed.
The raised funds will be allocated to 15 key fundraising areas for Ewha’s new future, including: ▲enhancing Ewha’s research capabilities ▲nurturing talent for the AI era ▲construction of Ewha West Campus ▲support for student employment and startups ▲increasing book and thesis collections ▲building the Ewha Advanced Academic Information Center ▲elevating Ewha’s brand value ▲installing an organ in the main auditorium ▲compiling Ewha’s history ▲creating a campus free from discrimination ▲support for student volunteer activities ▲support for colleges ▲mental health support for students ▲breakfast support initiative ▲and scholarship support.
From September, Ewha Womans University will send emails and SMS messages to existing donors, alumni, and university staff to promote the campaign and will encourage participation through online channels. Donors who participate in the campaign will receive a “140th Anniversary Special Scarf” as a token of appreciation.

Choi Yoonjung, Director of External Affairs at Ewha Womans University, said, “In order for Ewha to prepare for the next 140 years, we must strengthen global research competitiveness, cultivate future talent, build advanced education and research environments, and provide support for students. We hope to once again demonstrate the power of Ewha—built over the years by each individual’s dedication—and for that power to become the driving force behind Ewha’s new leap forward.”
