Smart Logistics Environment with Solar Power Facilities
BGF Retail announced on September 16 that it will hold the completion ceremony for the Busan Logistics Center, the largest facility of its kind in the Korean convenience store industry, at Busan International Industrial Logistics City in Guran-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.
The ceremony will be attended by Seok-jo Hong, Chairman of BGF Group; Jung-guk Hong, Vice Chairman of BGF Retail; Jeonghoo Oh, Head of Strategy and Innovation at BGF Retail; as well as key figures from the BGF Group. Dae-soo Jeon, Mayor of Busan; Sangjun Park, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Busan; and Sungho Park, Commissioner of the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, will also be present as prominent local guests.
The Busan Logistics Center was built on a site of 47,186.8 square meters (approximately 14,300 pyeong) with a total floor area of 128,072.65 square meters (about 38,700 pyeong). The total investment amounted to around 260 billion won. After signing an investment agreement with Busan City in 2021, BGF Retail began construction in 2024 and completed the project in July this year.
Currently, the cold storage center is in operation, and the ambient-temperature storage center is scheduled to be operational by the end of this year. The facility will serve as a key logistics hub responsible for supplying goods to CU stores and managing logistics operations in Busan and the Yeongnam region.
Taking advantage of its location near Busan New Port, the center will also strengthen its import and export logistics capabilities. It is planned to be developed as a global logistics base supporting CU’s overseas expansion in markets such as Mongolia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Hawaii.
The center is equipped with automated systems, including an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), auto-labelers, and a Digital Picking System (DPS). It has also received preliminary Grade 1 certification as a Smart Logistics Center from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
A solar power generation facility capable of producing up to 2,700 MWh of electricity annually has also been installed.
