Minister Hwiyeong Choi Discusses Cooperation Measures with Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that Minister Hwiyeong Choi met with Ozdobek Ahmadovich Nazarbekov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture, on the morning of the 15th at the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to exchange views on ways to enhance cultural cooperation between the two countries. View original imageMinister Nazarbekov noted that the reading population in Uzbekistan is increasing, and requested Korea's interest and cooperation on international development cooperation in the library sector. He also proposed the establishment of a joint practical committee to expand cooperation in a wide range of cultural fields between the two countries.
Minister Choi stated, "Uzbekistan, where a large number of Koryoin reside, is an important partner for Korea, and I hope that the Korea-Central Asia Summit will serve to broaden our cultural exchanges." He added, "I look forward to cooperation in various cultural sectors, including the designation of a Year of Mutual Cultural Exchange between the two countries, the promotion of the Library of Friendship project, and the expansion of Sejong Institute centers for Korean language education."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on September 14 with Uzbekistan to promote cooperation in the tourism sector. Following the tourism cooperation agreement signed in 2012, the ministry plans to further strengthen substantive tourism cooperation between the two countries through the signing of this new MOU.
