Asiana Mileage Usable for Korean Air Tickets...Final Approval for Mileage Integration Plan
Asiana Airlines mileage maintained separately for 10 years
Option to convert to Korean Air SkyPass mileage at any time
Conversion rates: flight miles 1:1, partner-earned miles 1:0.82
On Tuesday, September 15, Korean Air announced that it has received approval from the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) for its mileage integration plan with Asiana Airlines.
Korean Air submitted the proposed mileage integration plan to the KFTC on June 12, 2025. After approximately 15 months of careful review of various options to maximize consumer benefits, the final integrated mileage proposal has been established.
Asiana Airlines mileage can be maintained for 10 years or converted at any time
According to the new mileage integration plan, all mileage will be accumulated as Korean Air SkyPass mileage from the launch of the integrated Korean Air. Existing Asiana Airlines mileage will be transferred to Korean Air, but will be maintained and managed separately for 10 years. Customers will have the option to either continue using their Asiana Airlines mileage independently, or convert them all at once to Korean Air SkyPass mileage.
Customers holding Asiana Airlines mileage will be able to use their balances for bonus flight tickets and seat upgrades in accordance with the existing Asiana Airlines redemption chart.
The Asiana Airlines frequent flyer program will be automatically matched to the corresponding Korean Air membership tier, and the duration of elite status will be preserved. In addition to the existing three tiers—Million Miler, Morning Calm Premium, and Morning Calm—Korean Air will introduce a new “Morning Calm Select” tier, which provides SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits.
Earned flight miles at 1:1 ratio, partner-earned miles at 1:0.82
The conversion ratio for mileage between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will differ depending on whether the mileage was earned by flying or through partner activities.
For flight-earned mileage, since both airlines follow similar accumulation standards, the conversion rate will be 1:1. For partnership-earned mileage, after reviewing the amount consumers spent to accumulate those miles, the conversion rate will be 1:0.82.
The proportion of seats available for mileage redemption has also been enhanced through in-depth discussions with the KFTC to provide more opportunities for consumers. Accordingly, the number of bonus seats will be maintained at least at the level prior to the merger.
For long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, bonus seat availability will be set at or above the highest redemption levels of the past decade. The annual total miles redeemed by all members (from both Korean Air and Asiana Airlines) prior to the merger will serve as the baseline, and post-integration, this figure will be managed to maintain or increase mileage redemption volumes by more than 20% compared to the previous combined annual total.
Additionally, it will be possible to purchase Korean Air tickets using Asiana Airlines mileage. Not only Asiana Airlines’ former routes and the overlapping routes of both carriers, but also routes operated solely by Korean Air will be available for redemption, providing a much more diverse range of options for mileage users.
Starting September 15, Korean Air will launch the "Mileage Integration Information Site." Through this portal, detailed information on the integrated Korean Air mileage system will be provided.
