Wando County in South Jeolla Province is rolling up its sleeves this coming autumn to showcase the diverse attractions of island tourism.
On September 15, Wando County announced that it will host the “Clean Wando Autumn Island Travel” festival under the theme “Island Dyed in Autumn, Fell in Love with Wando!” at Wando Beach Park and its surrounding areas over three days, from October 9 to 11.
This event, a signature fall festival, brings together Wando’s pristine marine resources, local foods, and cultural content. Abundant programs allow visitors to experience the sea firsthand, in collaboration with renowned local islands such as Cheongsando and Bogildo.
Major island-linked programs include ▲ Stargazing on Cheongsando ▲ Staying at the idyllic Bogil Seoyeonjeong Pavilion ▲ Autumn Gifts of Saengildo Island—all designed to captivate tourists.
The main venue, Wando Beach Park, will feature a variety of performances, starting with a grand opening celebration show, a romantic concert, “Find the Singing King!”, and a magic show.
In addition, unique experience programs are prepared for families, such as the “Ocean Workshop” where visitors can see, touch, and even smell the sea, the “Island Quiz Tour,” and the “Beach Reading Culture Festival.”
True to its reputation as the “Home of Abalone,” the region will also host a gourmet festival highlighting local specialties. Under the concept of “The Delicious Transformation of Abalone,” there will be free tastings, surprise auctions, and discount events. The food zone will present a diverse array of abalone dishes, including abalone and seaweed bibimbap, abalone butter-grilled, and abalone kimbap.
One notable aspect of this festival is that it has been planned as a resident-participation event. The Clean Wando Autumn Island Travel Promotion Committee formed the “Festival Partners Resident Planning Group,” infusing the festival with creative local ideas at every stage, from content development to promotion and on-site monitoring.
The county aims to use the festival to boost autumn tourism demand and revitalize the local economy by promoting a stay-type island tourism model rather than short, fleeting visits. Detailed schedules and information about the festival will be provided in sequence through Wando County Office, the Wando Culture & Tourism website, and official social media channels.
