Kim Bongkyun, CEO of KT Cloud: "Supplying 1GW of AIDC by 2031 Based on Actual Demand"
Supplying AIDCs at Over 20 Locations Nationwide with Ultra-Low Latency Backbone Connectivity
Expanding "Composite AI"... "Attracting Global Demand from Big Tech and Beyond"
KT Cloud has unveiled its roadmap to establish AI Data Center (AIDC) infrastructure of over 1GW capacity at around 20 locations nationwide by 2031, connecting them with an ultra-low latency backbone network. The company aims to become an "AX Infrastructure Partner," by organically integrating large-scale, regionally dispersed AIDCs into a single infrastructure, thereby supporting the full process of corporate AI transformation (AX).

The event, held under the slogan "AX for Your Business," was attended by over 1,500 participants, including representatives from public institutions, corporate officials, and IT experts.
In his welcome speech, Kim Bongkyun, CEO of KT Cloud, emphasized that under KT’s "AX Platform Company" vision, KT Cloud will be responsible for the core infrastructure that realizes AX and supports customers in executing their AX objectives. He stated, “This summit offers an opportunity to share technology and experience so that customers can discover AX execution strategies and put them into practice for real business results. From strategy development and infrastructure building to operation and advancement, we will be a reliable AX partner, accompanying our customers throughout the entire process.”
The core growth strategy presented by KT Cloud that day is the convergence of large-scale AIDC infrastructure and networks. Choi Okjin, Executive Vice President of the Data Center division, announced a plan to expand regional clusters based on "customer-tailored AIDC" in the metropolitan area and "global-connected AIDC" outside the capital. Next-generation technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling (D2C), ultra-high-density power, and AI-powered intelligent operation will be applied, while leveraging solutions like digital twin, robotics, and Open Compute Project (OCP) open standards to enhance stability and operational efficiency.
On top of this, KT’s advanced network technology will be integrated. As a keynote speaker, Jeon Myeongjun, head of the Enterprise Services division at KT, presented a network strategy using the ultra-low latency backbone network to link geographically separated regional AIDCs into one massive infrastructure. The company also plans to jointly develop a "Modular AIDC" with SGC to enable rapid expansion of infrastructure in response to demand. Choi emphasized, “With this level of infrastructure competitiveness, we intend to actively attract demand for global AIDC from big tech and neo-cloud companies alike.”

In the realm of cloud, the company will use its self-developed "KT Cloud Platform" to integrate multi- and hybrid environments. Gong Yongjun, Head of the Cloud Division, said, “We will evolve beyond a ‘composite cloud,’ where resources can be freely selected and combined, to a ‘composite AI’ platform that brings together data, Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), Neural Processing Units (NPUs), computing resources, AI models, and agents into a single system.” The summit featured a total of 20 sessions and exhibitions by partner companies on topics including “AIDC & AX Infrastructure” and “Cloud Platforms and Services.”
