Approximately 100 people attended the event—including Yoon Hyojun, Head of Hyundai Motor Domestic Business Headquarters; Kim Eunhee, Executive Director of Domestic Support Business Division; Kim Kyungjo, Executive Director of Domestic Business Support Office; Hwang Daebyeok, General Head of Milal Welfare Foundation; Jo Seonggyeol, Director of Milal Welfare Foundation; Dohonggu, CEO of stroller company WHY-UP; and 40 families with children with severe disabilities.
The “Stroll” event for families of patients is part of the special stroller support program initiated by Hyundai Motor Company. The program targets children with severe disabilities who, due to their physical characteristics, have difficulty using standard strollers or wheelchairs and require medical equipment transport. The program aims to improve their transportation environment.
Standard strollers are limited in seat size, load capacity, and space for medical equipment, making it challenging for children with severe disabilities—who need to travel lying down or use medical devices—to receive hospital care and embark on daily outings. Furthermore, existing mobility aids such as stroller-type wheelchairs are costly and lack portability, imposing a significant burden on families of children with severe disabilities.
Recognizing these issues, Hyundai Motor Company is partnering with stroller specialist WHY-UP and the Milal Welfare Foundation to carry out the special stroller support program.
To this end, Hyundai Motor Company will fully cover the production and manufacturing costs for 500 special strollers. The Milal Welfare Foundation is in charge of beneficiary recruitment, selection, and project management, while WHY-UP is responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing of the strollers.
The special strollers provided through this program are tailored to accommodate the physical condition and medical needs of children with severe disabilities. Compared to standard strollers, the seat is about 50% larger, measuring 50×110 cm, and the frame is reinforced to support loads of up to 30 kg.
Additionally, the strollers feature a reclining seat adjustable up to 175 degrees, an IV pole module, and a large storage compartment with a capacity of 50 liters, improving mobility convenience for children who use medical equipment such as respiratory devices. One-touch folding functionality is also included to reduce the burden on caregivers during transportation and storage.
A Hyundai Motor Company representative stated, “We hope this special stroller support will make a practical difference for children with severe disabilities and their families when receiving medical care or going out for daily activities. As a mobility company, Hyundai Motor Company will continue to undertake social contribution activities to enhance daily accessibility for people with limited mobility.”
