The city explained that it will provide a total of 20.2 billion won in support for education this year. Major initiatives include improving high school academic achievement, special purpose education, running career and college counseling programs, and enhancing the educational environment.
The achievements of educational support were also shared. This year, 387 students from Hanam succeeded in gaining admission to major universities, marking an all-time record. This is an increase of 100 students compared to last year, and roughly three times the number recorded four years ago.
At the newly opened Hanhol Middle School in March, the city provided a total of 84.4 billion won to create a better educational environment, including free leasing of school land, construction of routes to school, and a pedestrian bridge.
The city also outlined plans to establish the "Phone-Free School" and "Hanam-Style RAS Character Education"—initiatives being pursued in partnership with the Gwangju Hanam Office of Education and based on the "Wall-Breaking Agreement"—as leading educational models for the region. Additionally, the city explained both the need for and future direction of separating and establishing the Hanam Office of Education.
During the open discussion, parents and school operation committee members shared difficulties they face in the field, such as student commutes and school placement. City and education office officials agreed to review these suggestions and jointly develop practical solutions that can be implemented on the ground.
Lee Hyun-jae, Mayor of Hanam City, stated, "One of the important foundations for building Hanam’s future is education," adding, "The city will actively play its role in creating an educational environment in which students can develop their dreams according to their talents and aptitudes, and parents can feel reassured."
