SK Eteonics Begins Commercial Operation of Paju Eco Green Fuel Cell Power Plant
SK Eteonics announced on the 14th that it has commenced commercial operation of the 'Paju Eco Green' fuel cell power plant, which was constructed in Nakha-ri, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
SK Eteonics invested a total project cost of approximately 224 billion won to establish the Paju Eco Green solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power plant, with an installed capacity of 31 megawatts (MW). The Paju Eco Green plant is equipped with 94 units of Bloom Energy's 330-kilowatt (kW) fuel cells, enabling annual power generation of about 258 GWh—sufficient to supply electricity for approximately 81,000 households for one year.
With this commercial operation, SK Eteonics has secured a cumulative fuel cell operating capacity of 200 MW. The company stated, "Following projects under the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) scheme, we are expanding into the general hydrogen power generation market (HPS). With two HPS sites (28 MW) currently under construction set to be completed sequentially, our total operating capacity is expected to reach 228 MW."
Fuel cells offer the advantage of relatively stable power output regardless of weather conditions or time of day, and they can reliably generate electricity near areas of demand. This reduces dependence on large-scale land and long-distance transmission networks, making them suitable for industrial complexes or urban-adjacent areas.

SK Eteonics CEO Kim Haejung stated, "Achieving a cumulative 200 MW in fuel cell operating capacity is the starting point for creating new growth opportunities, leveraging the experience we have accumulated so far." He added, "Going forward, we will strengthen our competitiveness in the distributed energy business in line with the evolving power market and demand, and continue to discover new applications and business models for fuel cells."
