KoasiaCM Korea Begins Full-Scale Mass Production of 3D ToF Modules for Robotics, Enters Global Robotics Supply Chain
KoasiaCM Korea, a subsidiary of KoasiaCM, will begin mass production of three-dimensional (3D) sensing modules for robotics applications. The company plans to accelerate the expansion of its next-generation optical solutions business by securing its first mass production reference in the robotics market, leveraging its accumulated expertise in optical design and manufacturing from the mobile sector.
KoasiaCM Korea announced that it has signed an agreement with Hana Optronics, a company specializing in Time-of-Flight (ToF) semiconductors, to mass-produce and supply ToF-based 3D sensing camera modules. The company also stated that initial shipments will be made within this month.
This agreement comes just about three months after the two companies announced a joint development and cooperation initiative for ToF module solutions in June. According to the company, the significance lies in entering the mass production and commercialization phase, moving beyond technology development, as the product is being integrated as a core component in the global robotics supply chain, particularly in the 3D sensing sector.
Through this project, KoasiaCM Korea intends to establish a mass production reference in the robotics sector, which will serve as a foundation to expand its global customer base and diversify its application fields. The company also plans to strengthen its collaboration with Hana Optronics to discover additional clients and broaden applications of the technology through this mass production supply partnership.
ToF is a technology that measures the time it takes for light to be emitted towards an object and reflected back, thereby enabling the three-dimensional recognition of the object's distance and spatial information. This technology can be applied to environmental awareness, obstacle detection, and spatial recognition in robots, and its application is expanding into various industries, including robotics, autonomous driving, and wearables.
The market’s growth potential is considered high as well. According to global market research firm Yole Group, the global 3D sensing market is projected to grow from USD 9.5 billion in 2024 to USD 17.6 billion in 2030. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is expected to be around 11%.
KoasiaCM, together with its subsidiary KoasiaCM Korea, has been nurturing next-generation optical technologies, including 3D sensing, as future growth businesses. In June, the company formalized its entry into new optical and robotics businesses during an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, and is also developing a stereo depth camera solution for robotics applications.
The company expects that if this mass production project is established successfully, it will serve as a catalyst to broaden the scope of its optical components business for robotics, alongside expanding its global customer base.
