President Lee Jaemyung on the 13th congratulated director Lee Changdong on his film "Possible Love" winning the Grand Jury Prize at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
On this day, President Lee posted an article titled "Congratulations to Director Lee Changdong on His Award" on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "'Possible Love' won the Grand Jury Prize at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival," and added, "When I met the director and the actors at the recent Lumière Summit, I directly heard about the strong local interest in the film."
He continued, "I am even more delighted that the expectations at that time have now borne such wonderful fruit," adding, "I hope this award will further expand the diversity of our films and allow more outstanding works to reach audiences around the world."
He went on to say, "Once again, I sincerely congratulate Director Lee Changdong and all the cast and crew. I will continue to support the brilliant journey of Korean cinema."
"Possible Love" received the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion), the second-highest prize in the competition section after the Golden Lion, at the closing ceremony of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival held in Venice, Italy, on the 12th (local time). This marks the first time a Korean film has won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. It is also the first award for a Korean film in the competitive section at Venice in 14 years, since director Kim Ki-duk's "Pietà" won the Golden Lion in 2012.
For Director Lee, this is his first Venice trophy in 24 years, since he received the Silver Lion for Best Director with "Oasis" in 2002. "Possible Love," his first new film in eight years since "Burning," stars Jeon Doyeon, Seol Kyunggu, Zo Insung, and Jo Yeojeong, and explores themes of class, labor, and human relationships through the stories of two couples who have lived very different lives.
