Rose, Former Galaxy Model, Draws Samsung's Jibe After Posting New iPhone Selfie: "You Could Have Asked Us"
Rose Hints at Collaboration Content with Apple
Rose and Samsung Electronics: A Previous Model Partnership
Rose, a member of the group BLACKPINK, posted a photo of herself holding Apple’s new smartphone, prompting an official comment from Samsung Electronics' account.
On September 9, Rose shared a mirror selfie with the iPhone 18 Pro both on her personal social media and Apple’s official account. She included a caption along the lines of, “iPhone, new trick, watch this.” The “new trick” is believed to refer to a new song, which is content resulting from a collaboration between Rose and Apple. “New Trick” is scheduled for release on September 18. Reportedly, the music video for “New Trick” was filmed using Apple’s new smartphone, the iPhone 18 Pro.
Her post attracted attention due to an unexpected comment from none other than the official Samsung Electronics account. On September 12, the official account for Samsung Electronics Canada commented on Rose’s post, “If you wanted a real phone, you could have asked us.”
In the past, back in April 2019, Rose served as a global ambassador for the Galaxy A series together with fellow BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa, forming a connection with Samsung Electronics. At the time, BLACKPINK took part in global promotions for the Galaxy A70 and A80, supporting Samsung Electronics in targeting a younger demographic. For this reason, many have described Samsung Electronics’ direct response to Rose’s photo with Apple’s new smartphone as a “witty counter-marketing move.”
Meanwhile, on September 9 (local time), Apple’s new CEO John Turners unveiled the company’s new foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, along with the iPhone 18 Pro series at Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Samsung Electronics, the leader in foldable smartphones, is actively engaging in “dissing marketing” of the iPhone Duo on social media. Ahead of Apple’s first foldable phone announcement, Samsung Electronics’ official X account in the United States (formerly Twitter) posted, “Making us wait? Sure. We’ll be over here folding three times.”

Samsung Mobile New Zealand’s official Instagram account also posted a photo of a man holding the Galaxy Z Fold8. At the center of the image, the words “Tim Cook” were prominently displayed. Samsung Electronics New Zealand captioned, “Big news. Tim Cook has switched to a Galaxy phone,” adding, “Yes, that Tim Cook. Tim Cook from Palmerston North.” They went on to ask, “Why? Which Tim Cook were you thinking of?”—a playful twist, using the familiar name of Apple’s CEO before revealing it was a namesake.
