Hacked Again... Personal Data Exposed in MuPot Breach Affecting 959,000 Members

Some members' personal information has been leaked in a hacking incident at MuPot, a platform that provides copyright-free background music and video sources.
On September 11, MuPot announced on its official website, "At the end of August, we confirmed that there was abnormal external access to our system, resulting in some customers' personal information being viewed or taken." The company added, "Immediately after detecting abnormal system activity on September 1, we blocked the relevant access route, reported the incident to the authorities, and implemented emergency security measures. We are currently investigating the exact cause and scope of the breach with technical support from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)."
The leaked information includes members' names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers. However, as the information held varies by user, the actual items leaked may differ from person to person. MuPot stated that if any additional leaked information is identified, it will provide further notification.
MuPot emphasized, "We have inspected the relevant systems and access permissions, and have addressed the security vulnerabilities," and continued, "We will further strengthen our personal data protection and information security system to prevent similar incidents from recurring." The company added, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern through this matter." MuPot also asked users to be vigilant against text messages, emails, calls, and website links from unknown sources in order to prevent secondary damage such as voice phishing and smishing.
