Prosecutors Return Arrest Warrant for Byungki Kim... Police to Conduct Supplemental Investigation
Prosecution: "Insufficient Grounds for Detention"
Police: "Reviewing Records... Reapplication Decision to Follow"
In response to the prosecution's request for supplementary investigation regarding the application for an arrest warrant against Independent lawmaker Kim Byungki, the police have stated that they will review the investigation records once again and conduct any necessary additional investigation.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 11th that it will review the records related to Assemblyman Kim and proceed with supplementary investigation as needed, adding that whether to reapply for the arrest warrant will be decided after the additional investigation is completed.
The Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Hyungwon) returned the arrest warrant application for Assemblyman Kim that was submitted by the police, and requested supplementary investigation on certain points. The prosecution explained, "Given that the suspect appeared for questioning seven times, and considering the progress of the investigation for about five months between the final investigation and the submission of the arrest warrant application, we determined that the necessity for arrest had not been sufficiently demonstrated."
Previously, on September 7, the police had applied for an arrest warrant for Assemblyman Kim on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, breach of duty, and interference with business.
