On September 11, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the People Power Party stated, "The Lee Jaemyung administration is attempting to temporarily relocate the Gwangju military airport to Yecheon Airport in North Gyeongsang Province. The noise damage caused by aircraft goes beyond inconvenience and verges on pain. In particular, the noise from fighter jets is so severe it can rupture eardrums, and it is not uncommon for calves to miscarry as a result. The Lee Jaemyung administration's disregard for North Gyeongsang Province and Daegu has reached the level of oppression."
Through a commentary released on this day, the People Power Party added, "While pushing for an 800 trillion won semiconductor investment in Honam, they have marginalized Gyeongbuk, which serves as a cornerstone of Korea’s electronics industry. Ultimately, Gyeongbuk National University, the top local national university, was excluded from the 'Creating 10 Seoul National Universities' project. This means they are planning to reduce support and investment in Gyeongbuk while increasing the intolerable fighter jet noise that causes so much suffering to local residents."
The party continued, "It is to the extent that we are left wondering whether this is retaliatory politics for the ruling party candidates’ defeat in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions in the last local elections. There are basic norms that must be respected even in politics. As people from Andong and North Gyeongsang, we are not asking for any special privileges from the President. We do not want to believe that the consecutive sidelining of the region – through semiconductor investment bypass, Gyeongbuk National University exclusion, and now the addition of military airport noise – is planned and intentional."

Kwon Baeksin, spokesperson of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter of the People Power Party, said, "In the National Assembly, Assemblyman Kim Hyeongdong (head of the provincial chapter), Assemblyman Sung Iljong, Assemblyman Lee Jongbae, and others have come out in opposition to the temporary relocation of the Gwangju military airport functions. The Yecheon County Council, which is directly affected, is also voicing public anger by raising strong objections. The People Power Party’s Gyeongbuk Provincial Chapter will stand alongside the National Assembly and Yecheon County Council in the fight to protect local residents’ livelihoods," adding, "We once again urge President Lee Jaemyung’s politics to remain within the bounds of common sense. If not, the patience of Daegu and North Gyeongsang residents will reach its breaking point."
