"10.8 Million Tons of Water Reused"... Samsung Semiconductor Saves and Reuses Water
Reuse Equivalent to Two Months of Water for Seoul Residents
33 Tons of Treated Sewage Purified for Industrial Use
Expanding Efforts to Water Quality Management and Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration
Samsung Electronics is accelerating its efforts in water resource management by reducing the amount of water used in semiconductor production and reusing treated wastewater as industrial water.
Samsung Electronics Semiconductor announced on the 11th, at the International Water Week Korea (KIWW) 2026 held at EXCO Daegu, that it presented its commitment and future direction for sustainable water management in the semiconductor industry. As the growth of the semiconductor sector has recently heightened the importance of stable water supply and discharge management, Samsung Electronics has strengthened its so-called "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" water management activities.
Through process improvements and equipment optimization, Samsung Electronics Semiconductor is reducing its water usage while also purifying and reusing water used at its sites. According to its latest sustainability report, the company reused approximately 108 million tons of water at its domestic business locations last year. This is equivalent to the amount of water that Seoul residents would use for about two months.

Samsung Electronics is currently preparing to reuse treated wastewater from Hwaseong, Osan, and Suwon at a scale of approximately 120,000 tons and 210,000 tons per day, respectively.
Beyond simply saving and reusing water, Samsung Electronics is also making efforts to manage the quality of discharged water and to conserve the aquatic ecosystems near its sites. There have been cases of ecosystem recovery, such as the reappearance of otters in the nearby Osancheon, thanks to improved water quality management.
The company is also undertaking "Water Positive" and "Nature Positive" initiatives to extend water resource management beyond its facilities. Together with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and Korea Water Resources Corporation, it plans to enhance the function of the Shinpung Wetland upstream of Jangheung Dam to return water resources to nature, as well as contribute to water quality improvement and biodiversity conservation.
Samsung Electronics Semiconductor showcased these water resource management activities at KIWW 2026. The exhibition featured technologies for water reduction and reuse, public-private partnerships for wastewater reuse, and activities for water quality management and ecosystem preservation.
