Sets Down, Prompts Up: [AI Survival Guide]
From 'Manager Kim' to Virtual Production
Survival Strategies in the Age of AI
The logic of capital and fairness in the video content production industry is being restructured around artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The construction of physical sets, which used to cost over 500 million won, is now being replaced by prompt-based workflows, and Hollywood production costs have dropped by more than 30%. As the cost barrier has fallen, strict budget control and meticulous pre-production planning have become essential for survival. The 'AI Content Creation Forum' hosted by Morpheus Studio on September 2nd showcased the reality of this seismic shift.
The SBS drama 'Manager Kim' is a representative example of overcoming physical limitations through AI. Hong Seongchang, head of Studio S, explained the background for this transition: "If we had shot a three-minute sequence set in North Korea in the early 2000s with live-action, production costs would have been around 500 to 600 million won." Regarding the completed product created with AI, he said, "I expected there to be some controversy after it aired, but no one raised any objections about this scene. It seems to have landed smoothly."
Ryu Jaehwan, Vice President of Morpheus Studio, who oversaw the process on-site, pushed back against the industry's belief that AI is a subset of visual effects (VFX). "AI is not VFX," he firmly stated. He emphasized that "any story previously abandoned due to budget constraints can now be told," highlighting how technology is expanding the boundaries of creative work.
Whereas live-action dramas have used AI to overcome physical limitations, the animation industry has erased the unique sense of alienness in AI-generated images through hybrid processes that blend traditional drawing techniques. Lim Beomsang, director at Red Dog Culture House, introduced the One Source Multi Use (OSMU) workflow and suggested a compromise between humans and machines, saying, "If you can't get the desired mood with AI, you can design it yourself by drawing it by hand."
Alongside illustration processes, he emphasized another critical survival factor: cost control. He revealed that generating 30 seconds of 4K video costs about 100,000 won, prompting them to operate a resource allocation system for each team member. His comment, "It's an era where you're accountable with a single click," serves as a warning that indiscriminate content generation without careful planning can lead to financial risk.
Virtual production, which controls time and space, also introduces new capital logic when combined with AI. Jang Wonik, CEO of Axon Studio, cited Amazon Prime Original's 'Old Story: Moses' as a representative case. "We shot for a week and worked on post-production for five months, cutting costs by about 30%," he said, pointing out how Hollywood's cost structure is being reshaped.
However, virtual production cannot replace all filming scenarios. Jang clarified, "People often ask if it can substitute every location, but that's actually not the case." He explained that it's most effective "when stories unfold in certain spaces like airplanes, trains, or cars," thus defining its scope of application.
This restructuring of capital ultimately empowers creators. Lee Sooyoung, CEO of Morpheus Studio, emphasized the importance of human judgment: "It's always people, not technology, who decide what is finished."

The AI content creation platform 'Achron,' developed by Morpheus Studio, is a practical realization of this philosophy. By implementing a 3D edit workflow that runs directly within a web browser—without external software—it prevents process deviation. After upgrading standard definition (SDR) footage into high-definition (HDR) with vivid contrast, it also eliminates the time wasted downloading heavy original files to check each one individually. Rather than just producing results, the platform returns decision-making power over what is considered 'complete' back to the creator.
