View original imageOn the 10th, in the city hall video conference room, Mayor Lee made these remarks while meeting with more than 10 individuals, including students from Saint Peter and Saint Paul Catholic Secondary School in Timor-Leste, who had come for cultural exchange.
The meeting was attended by Father Peter Seo Buk-won from Sanghyeon-dong Catholic Church, Sister Golomba Seo Geon-sun from the Korean Martyrs Association, and more than 10 students from Timor-Leste. After exchanging gifts with the participants, Mayor Lee personally explained Yongin Special City's growth potential and the vision for its semiconductor industry.
Mayor Lee said, "With a population of 1.11 million, Yongin is the eighth largest city in Korea," and added, "The domestic semiconductor industry began here 43 years ago, and now a mega semiconductor project involving Samsung Electronics and SK hynix is underway."
He went on to say, "Once the project is completed, Yongin will have the world's largest single-city semiconductor ecosystem. Based on the semiconductor industry that will support the AI era, Yongin is set to become an advanced city leading Korea's future."

He further explained, "Samsung Electronics and SK hynix currently account for 70% of the market share in the important memory semiconductor sector for the AI era. Based on these companies' massive investments in the semiconductor project, Yongin Special City will grow into an advanced city driving Korea's future."
