"Score: 53. Caution advised for sleep score. Looking at the sleep score, something seems to have affected last night's sleep quality."
On the morning of the 10th, after tossing and turning several times before getting up, I checked the sleep score recorded in the Oura app. Out of a total of 3 hours and 13 minutes of sleep, only 17 minutes were REM sleep and 57 minutes were deep sleep, both highlighted in red. The 'sleep debt', which had been forming a U-shape and decreasing since the 4th, soared to 8 hours and 20 minutes on this day. Sleep debt is calculated by comparing the total daily sleep time to a personalized target sleep requirement. These sleep data are compiled into a comprehensive one-page report called the 'Weekly Sleep Trend.' I used the Oura Ring 5, a wearable device in the form of a ring, for two weeks.
The most impressive aspect was the comfort while wearing it. Unlike smartwatches that create pressure on the wrist, when slipped onto a finger, the sensor inside the ring fits gently around the finger. There was no discomfort even when worn throughout the night. The Oura Ring 5 is 6.09 mm wide and 2.27 mm thick, making it 40% smaller than the previous model.
It is thinner and lighter than its competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Ring (7.0 mm wide, 2.6 mm thick). With a single charge, you can use it for up to seven days, so there is no need to worry about charging even if worn day and night.
The recessed section and sensor of the ring face the underside of the finger when worn. If the sensor shifts, accurate measurements may be difficult. According to Oura, the Oura Ring's optical sensor measures the finger’s artery. The finger provides a pulse signal up to 100 times stronger than the wrist, ensuring more accurate and consistent measurements.

View original imageThe Oura Ring 5 offers more than 50 health indicators and personalized insights, including sleep, activity, stress, and women’s health. The most useful feature is sleep tracking. It details total sleep time, sleep efficiency, nighttime breathing, lowest heart rate, and average heart rate variability (HRV), assigns a sleep score, and checks the consistency of sleep patterns. In fact, over the past two weeks my sleep score averaged 72, indicating high sleep quality. Checking the daily sleep score each morning made me try harder to sleep better, even just because of the ring.
The Oura Ring 5 was useful for collecting and tracking long-term health data. Accumulated stress is tracked over one month, and the body clock is monitored using 90 days of data. The Oura app combines these measurements to generate a daily readiness score and displays daily, weekly, and monthly trends with easy-to-read graphs. Over my two-week trial, my readiness score ranged from a low of 62 to a high of 90, showing a W-shaped pattern.
Unlike the Galaxy Ring, which is compatible only with Samsung Health, the Oura Ring 5 supports both iPhone and Android devices, ensuring broad compatibility.

However, the high price and ongoing maintenance costs after purchase are significant burdens. The Oura Ring 5 is priced at 630,000 won for black and silver, and 780,000 won for premium colors such as gold, stealth, brushed silver, and deep rose. To get health insights from the Oura app, a monthly membership subscription is required at 9,400 won, or 110,000 won annually.
