Building an AI Agent-Centric Payment Environment

The company plans to work with SK Telecom to develop the standard specifications for “Agent Pay,” where an AI agent handles everything from product recommendations to purchases. Hana Card will oversee payment and financial services within the SK Telecom consortium and also participate in developing the Agent Pay service.
Shinhan Card aims to build an integrated payment infrastructure allowing users to make payments seamlessly within the SK Telecom AI agent interface, without leaving the application. Hana Card will also focus on developing advanced product and service discovery, as well as end-to-end payment solutions, through its AI agent service—going well beyond the capabilities of existing chatbots.
Both companies plan to strengthen their preventive measures against security risks. Shinhan Card will utilize a real-time Fraud Detection System (FDS) to detect unauthorized payment attempts caused by AI malfunctions or chatbot hacking, and will also offer compensation and dispute resolution systems for erroneous purchases or system errors by AI agents. Hana Card intends to combine its secure payment and authentication expertise with SK Telecom’s extensive telecommunications infrastructure and agent interfaces (voice, A.Dot, etc.), as well as form partnerships within the consortium for services in mobility, shopping, and reservations.
A Shinhan Card official commented, “In an era of agent-driven commerce where AI participates as the main payment entity, the responsibility of card companies to protect customer assets will become even greater. By collaborating with SK Telecom, we will set the standard for AI payments in Korea and build a next-generation financial ecosystem where customers can use these services with peace of mind.”
