NEW and Mediacastle to Distribute Makoto Shinkai’s New Film
Partnership Extended After "Door 8" and "National Treasure"
On September 10, content group NEW announced that it will distribute director Makoto Shinkai’s new animated feature in domestic theaters, in partnership with importer Mediacastle.
The two companies previously collaborated to jointly distribute four major Japanese films: "Monster" in 2023, followed by "Door 8," "National Treasure," and "Sheep in the Box" in 2024.

Director Shinkai has proven to be a powerhouse at the Korean box office. Since debuting with the short animation "Voices of a Distant Star" in 2002, he has presented titles such as "Your Name" (2016), "Weathering With You" (2019), and "Suzume" (2022). Among them, "Suzume" became the first Japanese film to surpass 5 million admissions in Korea.
