Chairman Tae-Won Choi of SK, On-Site AX Management in Ulsan... Inspects AI Data Center and Ulsan CLX
Checking Progress of Ulsan AI Data Center Construction
On-Site Inspection of AI Applications in Refining and Chemical Processes
Accelerating Implementation of the 'AI Full-Stack Provider' Strategy
Chairman Tae-Won Choi of SK Group will visit Ulsan on September 10 to inspect the progress of AI transformation (AX) initiatives at the city’s AI infrastructure and manufacturing sites.
SK Group announced that on this day, Chairman Choi will successively visit the SK AI Data Center Ulsan and the SK Innovation Ulsan CLX (Complex). This inspection comes three months after he declared a major “AX-driven management transformation” at the New Icheon Forum in June.
Chairman Choi will first visit the SK AI Data Center Ulsan to review its construction status. This data center is the first hub for SK Group’s nationwide AI infrastructure initiative, and is being built together with Amazon Web Services (AWS) with the goal of commencing operations by the end of 2027.
SK Group plans to expand the Ulsan data center to gigawatt (GW) capacity and establish an AI data center cluster in the Yeongnam region with a total capacity exceeding 2 GW.
Next, he will check the application of manufacturing AX at SK Innovation Ulsan CLX. Ulsan CLX is leveraging AI in its refining and chemical processes to pursue process optimization, safety management, and energy efficiency improvements.
In particular, a “dual brain” system is being established by combining AI’s data analysis capabilities with the hands-on experience of site engineers. AI constantly detects and analyzes Ulsan CLX’s processes and equipment, enabling on-site staff to respond accordingly.
SK Group is pursuing an “AI full-stack provider” strategy that encompasses everything from semiconductors to AI data centers, energy, services, and manufacturing AX. The focus of this on-site visit is to simultaneously assess the progress of AI infrastructure construction and its application in manufacturing environments.
