The Republic of Korea Urban Awards is an honor that selects cities from among all local governments nationwide, evaluating urban sustainability, quality of life infrastructure, and outstanding policies. The award recognizes cities that have contributed to improving citizens’ quality of life and urban competitiveness.
Paju City has maintained its winning streak for five consecutive years, having received the Minister's Award in 2022, the Special Award in 2023, and the Minister's Award again in both 2024 and 2025, in addition to this year's award.
In this year’s evaluation, carbon neutrality policies closely tied to citizens’ daily lives received particularly high marks. Major initiatives included the nation’s first public renewable energy direct Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) supply model, an affordable electricity rate program for citizens, the Northern Gyeonggi Energy Expressway, and the development of a mini hydrogen city.
The operation of the ECO-ON Environmental Integrated Center, RE100 citizen education, and the introduction of the Paju-type mainline bus rapid transit (PBRT) for establishing a carbon-reducing public transportation system were also recognized as exemplary practices.
