Apple Unveils 'iPhone Duo,' Officially Enters the Foldable Market

Apple has unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the 'iPhone Duo.' This is the company's first foldable device, departing from the bar-type design that has been maintained since the release of the very first iPhone in 2007.
John Turners, the newly appointed CEO of Apple, introduced the iPhone Duo at a new product launch event held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, USA, on September 9 (local time).
The iPhone Duo is a book-style foldable smartphone, similar to Samsung Electronics' 'Galaxy Z Fold8,' which was unveiled this past July. The external display measures 5.4 inches, and when the device is unfolded, it expands to a large 7.6-inch screen.
The unfolded screen supports multitasking capabilities, allowing users to run different applications on each side at the same time. The Apple Pencil input, which was previously available mainly on the iPad, is also supported.

View original imageThe iPhone Duo is equipped with the latest mobile application processor (AP), 'A20 Pro', and Apple's in-house communication chip, 'C2.' The device also features a vapor chamber cooling system, which is designed to minimize performance degradation caused by overheating.
The price is set at $1,999 for the 256GB model. The retail price in Korea is 3,290,000 won. Pre-orders will begin on October 16, and the device will be available in stores starting October 23. However, Apple did not specifically reveal the release schedule by country for the iPhone Duo during the event.
On the same day, Apple also announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the wireless earphones AirPods 5, the Apple Watch Series 12, and the Apple Watch Ultra 4.
The iPhone 18 Pro series stands out for its significantly improved camera features. By adopting a variable aperture and offering a shutter speed control function, the device enables users to fine-tune settings according to various shooting environments.
The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Pre-orders will open on September 11, and in-store sales will begin on September 18. On the other hand, Apple did not unveil the standard model of the iPhone 18 at the event.

This event also marked CEO Turners' first time presiding over Apple’s annual new product launch since taking office. On stage, CEO Turners said, "I love that the products we create help people work more creatively and productively, and even make possible what was once thought impossible. That is why we exist and what we do."
