Emart's Advance Chuseok Gift Set Sales Rise 21.2%... "Practical Premium" Sets Gain Popularity
Premium Value with Abalone, Cutlassfish, and LA-style Beef Ribs Leads Sales
Luxury Gift Set Sales Over 200,000 Won Also Surge by 91%
Emart’s advance reservation sales for Chuseok gift sets have reached an all-time high. This is attributed to consumers continuing to focus on the quality and value of gifts while easing their price burden through early reservations in an environment of high inflation.
Emart announced on September 10 that its sales for the first advance reservation period for Chuseok gift sets, which ran from August 6 to September 4, increased by 21.2% compared to the same festive period last year. Demand was particularly concentrated in the first event period, where gift certificate benefits were at their peak. “Early bird” customers who sought to save costs by purchasing holiday gifts in advance led the performance, with the highest single-day sales for any advance reservation period recorded on the final day, September 4.
During the same period, Chuseok gift set sales also rose by 31.6% at Traders and 11.6% at Emart Everyday, respectively. Emart, Traders, and Emart Everyday will continue their advance reservation promotions until September 16. Benefits include discounts of up to 50% when paying with an event card or earning Shinsegae Points, gift certificates awarded according to purchase amount, interest-free installment payments, and free delivery.
By product, “practical premium” gift sets were especially popular. Emart maintained the quality of fresh food while diversifying sources, quantities, and configurations, and increased price competitiveness through large-scale purchases. Signature offerings include live abalone gift sets from Wando in the 40,000-won range and premium tilefish and cutlassfish sets in the 70,000-won range.
In the livestock category, American and Australian LA-style beef ribs ranked first and second in sales. Emart received positive feedback for diversifying import sources and offering these items at special prices in the 90,000-won range through bulk procurement. Sales also increased for practical items in the 30,000- to 50,000-won range such as apple and pear sets, as well as sets containing ginseng, deodeok (root herb), and dried mushrooms. In particular, the ginseng and related category grew 42.9% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, sales of luxury gift sets priced over 200,000 won increased by 91% year-on-year. Demand was driven not only by traditional premium gifts such as Korean beef and yellow corvina, but also by branded and rare high-end liquors including whisky and wine.
