"Crash in the Darkness, Into the Pitch-Black Sea"... Fisherman's Life Saved by Citizen's Bravery
Nighttime Fall Accident at Usan Port Breakwater
Nearby Angler's Swift Response Leads to Safe Rescue
Late at night, as pitch-black darkness had fallen, a fisherman who fell into the cold sea beneath the breakwater was rescued unharmed thanks to the swift actions of a nearby citizen. According to the Wando Coast Guard Office, at approximately 10:55 p.m. on September 8, an accident occurred at the Usan Port breakwater in Hoejin-myeon, Jangheung-gun, South Jeolla Province, where a fisherman, referred to as Mr. A, fell into the sea.
At the time, Mr. A was moving to another fishing spot on top of the breakwater when he tripped over a line tangled around his feet and fell directly into the water. As it was nighttime with poor visibility, it was a harrowing moment that could have easily led to a far more serious accident.
What shone through in this crisis was the bravery of Mr. B, who was fishing nearby. Witnessing Mr. A fall into the sea, Mr. B did not hesitate and immediately rushed to rescue him.
Upon receiving the report, the Wando Coast Guard Office was dispatched urgently to the scene and checked the condition of the rescued Mr. A. Fortunately, Mr. A was found to be in good health with no injuries.
The Coast Guard expressed its gratitude for Mr. B's courage and his selfless act of saving a life in dangerous nighttime conditions, and plans to present a certificate of appreciation to him soon.
