Defense Minister Visits Croatia for 'Cheonmu' Export Contract Ceremony
Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-baek will visit Croatia to mark the export contract of the domestically produced multiple rocket launcher 'Cheonmu' to the country. This is the first time that South Korea is exporting a defense product to Croatia.
According to the Ministry of National Defense on September 9, Minister Ahn is visiting Croatia from September 9 to 11 at the invitation of the Croatian Ministry of Defense.
On September 10 (local time), Minister Ahn will meet with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and attend the Cheonmu contract signing ceremony. During his visit, he is expected to highlight the excellence of South Korea’s defense industry and emphasize his willingness to strengthen cooperation with Croatia.
The Ministry of National Defense stated that this Cheonmu contract marks South Korea’s first defense export to Croatia, and evaluated that it will serve as an opportunity to develop mutually beneficial cooperation based on the defense partnership between the two countries.
The Cheonmu is a domestically developed multiple rocket launcher system deployed to counter threats such as North Korea’s heavy artillery and long-range artillery. It has a maximum range of 80 kilometers and is capable of launching high-explosive guided missiles and cluster guided munitions, among others.
Previously, the Cheonmu was exported to NATO member countries including Poland, Estonia, and Norway. With this agreement, Croatia becomes the fourth European country to adopt the Cheonmu system.
