The building's exterior, which from afar resembles stacks of green, yellow, and pink books atop a brown base, stands out even from a distance. Inside the store, bags, shoes, and accessories are placed between bookshelves that line the walls, giving the appearance of a library.
Global luxury brand Louis Vuitton has transformed its store into a library.
On September 9, Louis Vuitton unveiled its newly remodeled Dosan store, featuring the 'La Bibliotheque' concept. 'Bibliotheque' is the French word for library. The concept was inspired by the American 'Back-to-school' culture, where people purchase school supplies and backpacks before the start of the new academic year in the fall. It also aligns with the recent domestic trend, known as 'Text Hip,' in which reading and print culture have become objects of personal taste and consumption.

Notably, there are items such as the 'LV Drop 300,' which was designed in collaboration with Pharrell Williams, as well as other products that emphasize the back-to-school atmosphere.
On the second floor, there are two sneaker models available exclusively at the Dosan store: the pink 'Sunset Pink,' inspired by the Seoul skyline at sunset, and the gray-toned 'Seoul Gray.' 'Seoul Gray' also features the word 'Seoul' written in Hangul on the laces, adding a regional touch.

When you open the book-shaped case, a cake is revealed inside, and you eat it by breaking through the chocolate-coated exterior with a spoon. Heart-shaped chocolate cakes and fig desserts are also available. Cookies shaped like envelopes and macarons stamped with the Louis Vuitton logo are offered as take-away items only.
Louis Vuitton changes the concept of the Dosan store about every four months. The brand employs a strategy that goes beyond selling products, combining spatial design and food and beverages (F&B) under one theme and making the store itself a space for brand experience.

The area stretching from Dosan Park through Apgujeong Rodeo to Cheongdam-dong is attracting concentrated investments by global luxury brands. Luxury brands, once focused on department stores, are now expanding large standalone stores in street-level districts, establishing these stores as the new 'faces' of their brands.
Cheongdam's luxury streets already house standalone boutiques representing the major players such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Dior, Burberry, Saint Laurent, and Loro Piana. Recently, the range of brands—once mainly centered on fashion and bags—has been expanding to include watches and jewelry.
New store openings continue. Earlier this year, Italian jewelry brand Damiani opened its first flagship store in Korea, and last month, German wedding jewelry brand Acredo launched a six-story flagship in Cheongdam. Rolex is also preparing to open its first standalone store in Korea, covering approximately 911 square meters, in the second half of the year.
Competition will intensify even further next year. Bottega Veneta is planning to open its very first standalone flagship in Korea in the first half of the year, spanning six floors and approximately 3,200 square meters. In the same neighborhood, Tiffany is constructing a building with around 3,656 square meters across seven floors. Polo Ralph Lauren is also preparing a flagship on Dosan-daero, with a space of about 1,839 square meters. In a corridor of just 700 meters from Cheongdam intersection to Apgujeong Rodeo Station, several large flagship stores will open at the same time.
Beyond Retail to 'Brand Identity' ... Korea Draws Global Attention
Luxury brands are investing in standalone stores in the Gangnam area because the function of offline stores is evolving. While department stores are effective for product sales, flagships allow brands total control over exterior design, interior spaces, and product assortments. They can create private spaces for VIPs, operate high-end and limited-edition products, and integrate exhibitions and food and beverage (F&B) experiences to express brand identity.
The elevated status of the Korean market is also a driving force. With solid domestic demand for luxury goods and an increase in spending by foreign tourists, analysts say global brands are viewing Seoul as a major hub for the Asian market. According to global market research firm Euromonitor, the domestic luxury market grew from KRW 13.3283 trillion in 2016 to KRW 15.2182 trillion in 2020, and is projected to reach KRW 21.1071 trillion in 2025.

An industry official commented, "Cheongdam and Dosan areas not only attract high-spending customers, but the concentration of major luxury brands itself became a competitive advantage." The official explained, "The more competing brands gather, the more these areas become must-visit destinations for consumers seeking to explore multiple brands at once, creating a clustering effect that draws even greater foot traffic." They added, "Recently, flagships are more than just retail points; they have taken on a media role in representing brand stature and identity. Even at high costs, securing standalone buildings in prime luxury districts is now a strategic way to demonstrate a brand's presence."
