"Capturing Japan's 1,400 Trillion Won GX Market...Korean Materials & Components Firms Explore Export Opportunities in Tokyo"
KOTRA Dispatches Market Development Delegation to 'Smart Energy Week'
Targeting Japan's Green Global Value Chains (GVC)
B2B Consultations with Major Companies Including Hitachi and Toshiba
As the Japanese government accelerates its Green Transformation (GX) policy with a scale of 150 trillion yen (approximately 1,400 trillion won), Korean companies specializing in materials, parts, and equipment (so-called "SoBuJang") in the renewable energy and nuclear power sectors have visited Tokyo to seize opportunities presented by the restructuring of local supply chains.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on the 10th that, in partnership with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Korea Nuclear Industry Association, it dispatched a climate tech market development delegation to Tokyo, Japan, for four days starting from the 7th, holding an exhibition consultation event in conjunction with the '2026 Smart Energy Week.' A total of 17 Korean companies specializing in renewable energy and nuclear power materials, parts, and equipment joined the delegation to explore potential cooperation with global Japanese enterprises.

On the 7th, KOTRA identified electricity equipment industry trends by co-hosting a seminar with the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association (JEMA) and RX Japan; on the following day, it visited Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI), a leading Japanese energy policy think tank, and the Ukishima solar power plant to assess demand for equipment procurement.
At the Korean Pavilion of Asia’s largest renewable energy exhibition, ‘2026 Smart Energy Week’, which took place over three days starting on the 9th, business-to-business (B2B) consultations were held with more than 50 local companies, including 20 leading Japanese energy companies such as Toshiba and Hitachi and major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms.
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Japanese government is implementing a green investment plan totaling 150 trillion yen (approximately 1,400 trillion won) over a ten-year period starting in 2024. In particular, with power demand surging due to the recent expansion of data centers, the need for collaboration with overseas supply chains among Japanese companies is rapidly increasing.
A representative from a participating Korean company referred to as S said, "Due to the rapid increase in power demand in Japan from recent data center expansions, there is a noticeable rise in Japanese companies seeking cooperation with overseas supply chains. Given the current high level of interest in Korean companies, we have been able to hold meetings with leading Japanese power companies such as Hitachi and Toshiba through this project, and we expect strong results in the future."

Park Yongmin, KOTRA’s Head of the Japan Regional Headquarters, stated, "Recent active GX and AX promotion policies of the Japanese government are changing the supply chain strategies of traditionally conservative Japanese companies. By identifying demand through this market development delegation, we will do our utmost to serve as a bridge in meeting the needs of both Korean and Japanese companies, helping Korean materials, parts, and equipment companies to expand their business in Japan."
