Suncheon City, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, announced that the 43rd Suncheon Palma Cultural Festival will be held for two days from September 12 at the Nammunteo Plaza and throughout the Culture Street area.
This year’s Palma Cultural Festival is themed ‘Palma Spirit: From Resonance to Connection.’ The event aims to embody the values of Palma in a diverse range of cultural content, with a particular emphasis on creating a festival where local artists take center stage and citizens directly participate.

A payback event has also been prepared to further energize the local economy by encouraging visitors to shop at stores in the old town center.
On September 12, the festivities will begin with a citizen parade and an opening performance, followed by a celebratory concert by singer Hyolyn. On September 13, there will be the ‘Palma Talk Concert’ with historian Choi Taeseong, who will explain the Palma Spirit in an approachable and entertaining way. There will also be the citizen-participatory play ‘Talking about Suncheon,’ the ‘Palma Golden Bell’ citizen quiz show, and a variety of performances by local artists.
There are also programs where participants can walk through the old town and experience Palma first-hand. ‘Find Mr. Palma – Children’s Seungpyeongbusa Family Expedition’ is an activity where families explore the old city center while enjoying the history of Suncheon and the Palma Spirit in a fun way. On Culture Street, visitors can also enjoy the 'Art Connect 5', a joint exhibition that links five galleries in the area, along with a stamp tour.
An official from the city stated, “The Palma Cultural Festival is a treasured tradition that has been held together with citizens over a long period of time in Suncheon. This year, special attention was given to having local artists fill the stages and citizens participate directly to create a festival together. We hope that, this weekend, you take a walk through the old city center with your family and friends and share in the joy of the festival and the enduring values of Palma that have stayed with us.”
