Korea Exchange to Suspend Night Trading for Derivatives on the Day Before Chuseok Holiday
The Korea Exchange has announced that night trading for derivatives will be closed from 6:00 p.m. on the 23rd until 6:00 a.m. on the 24th.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 9th, night trading for derivatives is settled together with the regular session that follows. Therefore, the night trading session that begins on the 23rd will be settled in combination with the regular session on the 28th.
If night trading for derivatives is conducted immediately prior to a long holiday, there is a possibility that participants’ night trading positions will be exposed to risk for an extended period. The Korea Exchange made the decision to suspend night trading on the day before the holidays in order to prevent increased risk management burdens on market participants in the event of sharp price fluctuations.
Major Asian exchanges have implemented similar measures, such as suspending night trading on the day before long holidays. Since the introduction of night trading in June last year, the Korea Exchange has also suspended night trading on the day before national holidays.
