Kakao Demonstrates Digital Asset Wallet Technology... Moves to Secure Lead in Distribution Infrastructure
Kakao Pay announced on September 9 that it has conducted a Proof of Concept (PoC) for its digital asset wallet development technology.
Kakao Group plans to distribute the validated technology within the domestic digital asset market. At the same time, the group aims to offer consulting solutions based on its experience in navigating Korea’s regulatory landscape and the complex financial environment that encompasses fintech and banking sectors.
Kakao Pay is establishing infrastructure for the circulation of digital assets—including KRW stablecoins—leveraging its expansive user base and payment network. Kakao Group is recognized for preparing to expand distribution infrastructure by verifying technologies for remittance, payments, and settlements of digital assets such as stablecoins, as well as developing user interfaces within Kakao Pay’s high-volume traffic wallet environment.
Following the verified technological validity and service convenience provided by Kakao Pay, which operates on a pre-paid deposit basis, Kakao Bank is now testing wallet integration, stability, and usability by applying banking-level security and regulatory requirements.
Kakao Group plans to deploy the proven wallet technology not only within the group but across the broader domestic digital asset ecosystem, supporting infrastructure establishment for distribution. With the challenge of developing and operating stablecoin distribution systems in line with emergent regulatory frameworks and the needs of individual companies, Kakao Group intends to offer digital wallet solutions powered by technology verified across both domestic payment and banking networks. The group characterizes this as an "integrated solution," combining its technology and expertise in line with Korea’s regulatory requirements and market realities.

Focusing on building such distribution infrastructure, Kakao Group is in talks with major domestic companies and financial institutions considering the adoption of digital assets such as KRW stablecoins. Shin Wongeun, CEO of Kakao Pay and Co-Head of the group’s Stablecoin Task Force, stated, “The true value of stablecoins and other digital assets lies not just in issuance, but in the distribution phase where assets are actually used. By leveraging Kakao Group’s vast distribution potential, we will continue to demonstrate leadership in wallet infrastructure technology and regulatory adaptation, working with diverse partners to support the adoption and prosperity of the domestic digital asset ecosystem.”
