Haein Secures Order for Main Engines and Generator Sets for New Fast Attack Craft
Haein has signed a contract to supply main engines and generator sets for the follow-on vessels of the Navy's new fast attack craft.
According to Haein on September 9, the company has signed a contract with the shipyard constructing the vessels to deliver eight Caterpillar main engines and eight generator sets for installation in four new fast attack craft (Gumdoksuri-B Batch-II). This is a total of 16 units, and the equipment is scheduled for sequential delivery starting in March 2028.
The Navy's project to acquire 230-ton class new fast attack craft, known as the Gumdoksuri-B program, plans for a total of 34 vessels. The first phase, Batch-I (16 vessels), was completed and delivered by 2022 and these are currently in operation. The follow-up program, Batch-II (18 vessels), began with the delivery of the lead ship in August and is scheduled to continue with sequential deliveries to the Navy by 2030.
Haein previously supplied the main engines and generator sets for all 16 Batch-I vessels and, with this latest contract, has secured supply references for up to the 16th ship of Batch-II as well. The company is also looking to secure additional supply opportunities for the remaining 17th and 18th vessels.
The company plans to explore new business opportunities by leveraging its capabilities in engine supply, parts procurement, and maintenance and technical support, in response to the expected expansion of the U.S. Navy's MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) projects within the domestic shipbuilding industry. In addition, Haein intends to participate in overseas navy MRO projects by collaborating with overseas Caterpillar dealers and domestic shipbuilding and maintenance companies.
