KOSPI Closes Lower at 6,950 on Net Selling by Individual Investors
The KOSPI ended lower, pressured by net selling from individual investors.
On September 8, the KOSPI finished trading at 6,954.52, a decrease of 40.87 points (0.58%) compared to the previous day. Trading volume was provisionally tallied at 331.92 million shares, with a transaction value of 25.9593 trillion won.
By investor type, institutional investors and foreigners recorded net purchases of 642.8 billion won and 648.2 billion won, respectively, while individual investors offloaded a net 3.0333 trillion won. In the futures market, institutional investors posted net sales of 1.4634 trillion won, whereas foreigners and individual investors net-bought 652.1 billion won and 706.6 billion won, respectively. In program trading, arbitrage trading saw net sales of 44.2 billion won, while non-arbitrage trading posted net purchases of 123.2 billion won.
By industry sector, more sectors declined than increased. The IT services sector dropped 3.21%, followed by medical precision at -2.1%, transportation equipment -1.8%, pharmaceuticals -1.56%, transport and storage -1.53%, insurance -1.35%, telecommunications -1.33%, chemicals -1.14%, food, beverage & tobacco -0.92%, and non-metal -0.84%. On the other hand, the electric & gas sector rose 3.27%, construction climbed 3.04%, general services 1.74%, machinery & equipment 0.83%, and real estate 0.75%.
Among large-cap stocks, more declined than gained. Samsung Electronics fell 0.19%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics -5.78%, LG Energy Solution -3.86%, Hyundai Motor -2.04%, Samsung Biologics -1.77%, Samsung C&T -0.52%, KB Financial Group -1.25%, Samsung Life Insurance -1.28%, and Shinhan Financial Group -0.61%. On the upside, SK hynix rose 0.56%, SK Square 0.53%, and Doosan Enerbility 1.82%.
On the day, 231 stocks advanced, 634 declined, and 45 remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also closed lower. The KOSDAQ finished at 811.88, down 10.31 points (1.25%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutional investors recorded net sales of 217.8 billion won, while foreigners and individual investors logged net purchases of 60.7 billion won and 149 billion won, respectively.
Among major KOSDAQ stocks, more declined than gained. Alteogen fell 3.15%, Ecopro -1.7%, Ecopro BM -1.78%, Rainbow Robotics -3.35%, Wonik IPS -1.53%, EO Technics -2.08%, and HLB -3.95%. On the upside, Jusung Engineering rose 3.95%, while LIG Nex1 climbed 0.73% and Simmtech 1.67%.
