China's Exports Grow 25% in August... Trade Surplus Reaches $119.1 Billion
China's exports in August increased by 25% compared to the previous year.
According to China's General Administration of Customs on September 8, exports in August reached $401.44 billion, up 25% from the same month last year. This represents a larger increase than July's 23.9%. Imports also rose, totaling $282.36 billion, a 28.2% increase. As a result, China's trade surplus in August expanded by about 6% from the previous month to $119.09 billion.
After posting a record-high trade surplus of $1.2 trillion last year, China is likely to achieve a similar surplus level this year. The cumulative trade surplus from January through August 2026 totaled $805.51 billion. Bloomberg News analyzed that increased global investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure is supporting trade in the Asian region.

By region, exports to the United States grew by 34.4%. Exports to ASEAN member countries increased by 30.2%. In contrast, exports to the European Union rose by only 6.6%.
