A Man in His 40s Who Worked 14 Hours a Day to Support His Family Gives New Life to Four Through Organ Donation
Declared Brain-Dead After Motorcycle Delivery Accident
Heart, Liver, and Both Kidneys Donated
A man in his 40s, who had been the head of his family since his early 20s, ended his life by donating his organs, giving four people the gift of a new life.
According to the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency on September 8, Jeongseop Choi, aged 46, donated his heart, liver, and both kidneys at Korea University Guro Hospital on July 24. Previously, on the night of July 17, while working a delivery job under pouring rain, Mr. Choi was seriously injured in a traffic accident. He was transferred to the hospital and underwent surgery, but was ultimately declared brain-dead.
Having witnessed his family members suffering from illnesses during his lifetime, Mr. Choi had expressed his desire to help others if anything were to happen to him. Respecting his wishes, his family agreed to organ donation.
Born in Seoul as the eldest of one son and one daughter, Mr. Choi took on the responsibility of supporting his family after his father passed away following a long illness when Mr. Choi was in his early 20s. As his mother and younger sister continued to struggle with health issues and required frequent hospitalization, he devotedly cared for them, always putting his family first.
After starting his delivery job, Mr. Choi worked more than 14 hours a day. He enjoyed hiking and walking on trails, but rarely had the chance to pursue his hobbies. Having worked continuously since his early 20s, he hardly ever traveled or spent leisurely time with his family, which remains a source of regret for them.
