Development of AI-GMP Platform by 2030
Real-time Control of Variability Across All mRNA-LNP Manufacturing Processes

On September 8, GC Green Cross announced that it has been selected as the lead research institution for the project titled "Development of AI-based Vaccine Manufacturing Variability Control and Intelligent Quality Management System," organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT).

In addition to GC Green Cross, Mokpo National University, Daegu Catholic University, and Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation are also participating as joint research institutions in this project.

This project will be carried out for a total of four years and six months, from this year through 2030. The participating institutions plan to establish an AI-based smart manufacturing and quality management (AI-GMP) ecosystem centered on the mRNA-LNP GMP production infrastructure at the Hwasun Bio-specialized Complex and the GC Green Cross Hwasun Plant.

The main development goal is to integrate AI with GMP to enable real-time control of variability and optimize quality in every process, from drug substance (DS) to drug product (DP) manufacturing of mRNA-LNP vaccines. The company explained that by combining continuous process analysis technology and AI models, it aims to minimize quality variability between batches, establish a real-time quality prediction and anomaly detection system, and thereby secure a foundation for consistent mass production of high-quality vaccines.

Lee In-kyu, head of GC Green Cross Hwasun Plant, said, "By successfully developing the AI-GMP intelligent platform, we will maximize the consistency of mRNA vaccine quality," adding, "We will complete a core asset that enables rapid and stable response in the event of future pandemics."
