"Can I Get Insurance?" Instant Eligibility Check... Samsung Life Insurance Reaches 100th Patent
Samsung Life Insurance announced on September 8 that it has registered a patent for its "Expected Underwriting Result Provision System," which enables customers to verify their eligibility for insurance enrollment.
This patent marks the 100th registered patent for Samsung Life Insurance.
The "Expected Underwriting Result Provision System" has greatly reduced the inconvenience experienced by both customers and planners during the insurance enrollment process. Previously, customers only learned if they were eligible for insurance after going through complicated application designs and exhaustive underwriting procedures, including entering past medical histories. If the application was rejected at this stage, the entire process had to be restarted from scratch, causing significant inconvenience.
To address these issues, Samsung Life Insurance developed a system that instantly displays the underwriting results for all products currently for sale with just the customer's selection, eliminating complex procedures. The company filed for this patent in 2022. If a customer consents, data is transmitted from the Korea Credit Information Services and processed through underwriting criteria to produce real-time results.

Notably, if the system anticipates that a customer may be denied enrollment due to their past medical history or other reasons, it proactively searches for and suggests alternative products or conditions for which the customer would be eligible. Samsung Life Insurance stated that this reduces the inconvenience of redesigning an application and broadens customers' opportunities to obtain insurance. A representative of Samsung Life Insurance commented, "The core of this patent is the innovation of the underwriting process, allowing customers to quickly understand their eligibility and receive optimal product suggestions," adding, "We will continue to enhance customer convenience throughout every stage, from policy planning to claim payout."
