Japan was conquered. Now, the domestic stage awaits.
Lee Sanghee will compete in the 42nd Shinhan Donghae Open, an event featuring top athletes from both Korea and Japan. The tournament will be held over four days from September 10 to 13, 2026, at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Songdo, Incheon.
The Shinhan Donghae Open was founded in 1981 by the late Hee-Gun Lee, Honorary Chairman of Shinhan Bank, and Korean-Japanese golf enthusiasts. It is the longest-running professional golf tournament in Korea hosted by a single company. This year's total prize money is 1.5 billion won, with 300 million won awarded to the winner. Starting this year, the tournament is jointly organized by the KPGA Tour and the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO).
On August 30, Lee Sanghee made history at the JGTO Sansan KBC Augusta (total prize money: 100 million yen), held at the Keya Golf Club (par 72) in Fukuoka, Japan. Thirteen years after making his JGTO debut in 2013, he captured his first championship trophy, following eight runner-up finishes before finally claiming victory.
Lee Sanghee first entered the KPGA Tour in 2011, securing his maiden professional win during his debut year at the NH Nonghyup Open. He went on to win at the 2012 SBS Happiness KPGA Championship, the 2016 SK Telecom Open, and the 2017 GS Caltex Maekyung Open.
Riding the momentum of his first win this season in Japan, Lee Sanghee is determined to continue his success in Korea. He stated, "I have achieved four career wins on the KPGA Tour so far. My goal is to add another victory on Korean soil," and added, "I haven't won in Korea since 2017, so I will do my best to ride this positive momentum and achieve a good result at the Shinhan Donghae Open."

There is another attraction at this year's tournament. Golfers selected for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games at the end of this month will also compete. South Korea's Kim Sunghyun and Moon Do-yeob, as well as Japan's Kazuki Higa, will take part. The pride and rivalry among these three competitors is expected to unfold in a thrilling fashion.
