Prior to the meeting, Mayor Cho emphasized, "During the development of Segyo Districts 1 and 2, problems arose due to an excessive ratio of rental housing, insufficient land for self-sufficient facilities, and inadequate metropolitan transportation networks. These issues must not be repeated in Segyo 3, which will be Osan's future growth engine."
Vice Minister Eetack Kim stated, "We will thoroughly review with our staff the suggestions provided by Osan City to ensure smooth housing supply and expansion of the transportation network. We will work together for the successful advancement of the Segyo 3 District."
During the roundtable, Mayor Cho focused on proposing an expansion of land allocated for self-sufficient facilities, an increase in the budget for metropolitan transportation improvement measures, and a higher supply ratio of for-sale housing.
Previously, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport had announced plans to designate 309,000 square meters (approximately 93,000 pyeong) of self-sufficient land in Segyo 3 District. However, the city maintains that, to attract companies specializing in AI and semiconductor materials, components, and equipment, and to further enhance the city’s self-sufficiency, this area should be expanded to roughly 300,000 pyeong.
"In order for Osan to secure its status as the key city for semiconductor materials, components, and equipment in southern Gyeonggi Province and secure future growth engines, a self-sufficient area of 300,000 pyeong is absolutely necessary," said Mayor Cho.
Regarding metropolitan transportation improvement measures, he pointed out that the cost currently borne by the project operator amounts to only 7.6% of the total project cost, which is lower than the 15~20% average in other public housing districts.
Mayor Cho stressed, "To prevent transportation inconveniences for Segyo 3 District residents and to ensure the timely expansion of the metropolitan transportation network, the project operator’s share in the metropolitan transportation improvement budget should be set at 20% of the total project cost."
He also requested that the supply ratio of for-sale housing be further increased and that housing for newlywed couples be expanded to support housing stability for genuine end-users.
