The official fuel efficiency rating for Hyundai Motor Company’s ‘The All-New Avante Hybrid,’ which was launched last month, has been released. Despite the vehicle’s larger body and improved performance, Hyundai has increased its fuel efficiency by more than 10% compared to the previous model, achieving the highest level of fuel economy ever for this lineup.
According to the automotive industry and Hyundai Motor Company on September 7, the combined fuel efficiency of The All-New Avante 1.6 Gasoline Hybrid is certified at 21.2 kilometers per liter with 17-inch wheels. This represents an improvement of approximately 10.42% compared to the 2026 Avante Hybrid with the same wheel size, which achieved 19.2 kilometers per liter. The 18-inch model has also been certified at 19.9 kilometers per liter, surpassing the previous generation’s 17-inch offering. Usually, larger wheels result in increased rolling resistance and lower fuel economy, but the new model boasts greater efficiency even with larger wheels. For reference, even the Toyota Prius Hybrid—known for its fuel efficiency—has a combined rating of 20.9 kilometers per liter with 19-inch wheels. This means The All-New Avante Hybrid is now at the top of its class in fuel efficiency.
This improvement is particularly significant because it was achieved through simultaneous enhancements in body rigidity and power performance. To improve crash safety, Hyundai Motor Company increased the use of 1-GPa hot-stamped and ultra-high-strength steel from 52.6% to 58.7% in key body areas. This technical breakthrough overcame the structural limitation that strengthened frames tend to increase curb weight.
Power performance has also been significantly improved. The new Avante Hybrid combines a third-generation Smartstream 1.6 GDI engine, a drive motor with a maximum output of 45 kW, and a 1.49 kWh high-voltage battery, delivering a peak output of 157 horsepower—an increase of 16 horsepower from the previous model. Generally, increased output leads to lower fuel economy, but the new Avante Hybrid manages to deliver both high performance and outstanding efficiency.
To further maximize efficiency, Hyundai Motor Company adopted an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head and a continuously variable oil pump. The company also raised the effective compression ratio for stronger mixture compression and introduced a 350-bar high-pressure fuel injection system, which together contributed to an approximate 2.9% improvement in engine fuel efficiency.

The All-New Avante Hybrid is priced between 30,420,000 and 36,990,000 won before eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits. Although adding optional features to higher trims pushes the price above 40,000,000 won, potentially raising the entry barrier, attention is now focused on whether this double-digit fuel efficiency boost can attract practical-minded consumers.
